Audio Infrastructure Modernization
MoLAA (Museum of Latin American Art) - Long Beach, California
Technical Precision & Collaboration in Cultural Spaces
We’ve all seen it — a presentation, performance, or gathering ruined by poor audio or difficult and confusing systems. It doesn’t have to be that way, and organizations who choose to prioritize their audio systems elevate the experience of every person who walks through their doors as well as their bottom lines.
MoLAA (Museum of Latin American Art) in Long Beach, California used to have a system that was over 30 years old with such poor audio quality and complexity that an average employee could not turn it on for ambient music, microphones cut in and out, and performers would have to bring their own systems rather than use what the museum had. MoLAA’s BIPOC Board Members recognized the importance of correcting this issue, so they contracted us to upgrade their audio infrastructure across key performance areas.
Known for precision wiring, we ran all new wires and expanded the system without opening walls or flooring. We collaborated with faculty, system engineers, installers, and programmers to ensure flawless execution, and we developed a three-phase roadmap for incremental upgrades with minimal museum downtime.
Our upgrades were focused on MoLAA’s Viva Room and Sculpture Garden, where cultural events are held year-round. In the Viva Room, we installed an 8.4 stereo system by Theory Audio Design with eight satellite speakers + four subwoofers suspended from the ceiling for perfect dispersion and deep bass. This included integration with the PA system with four wired connection points for flexible staging. In the Sculpture Garden, we installed a six-channel weatherized stereo system with dual 24" subwoofers, which was the first outdoor commercial system by Pro Audio. This included custom marine-grade brackets, integration with the PA system and controlled via Q-Sys automation for seamless operation.
With this project, we delivered a user-friendly control interface, which simplified training for museum staff and enhanced their event operations. We also donated our User Interface technology, ensuring long-term expandability and reliability.
Our system improvements boosted rental opportunities and the museum’s ability to host private functions, which will help support the museum’s future for many years to come.
