Smart Living Designed for Aging in Place

Personalized Smart Home Design for Accessibility & Comfort

Your home should provide comfort and ease in all stages of life, and especially so when choosing to age in place. With the technology available to us today, accessibility means so much more than just a walk-in shower or tub. It means reimagining your space as a smart home and making every touchpoint as accessible and automated as possible.

At Mia Design, we are passionate about customizing your home to fit exactly what you need to thrive, which is why we were honored to partner with local general contractor LineWork Development on an accessible smart home design for a new construction project in Arcadia, California.

For this project, we began with a Low Voltage Plan consultation directly with our clients, then executed a complete pre-wire based upon our collaborative design.

Then, we designed and integrated Smart Systems Solutions focused on our clients’ specific needs for aging in place. This included thoughtfully positioning light switches and outlets lower for wheelchair access, and motorizing and automating window treatments so that they are synced to open and close with wake and sleep schedules.

Our Smart Systems Solutions also put control into the palms of our clients’ hands. That meant smart lighting control as well as safety and security features accessible on mobile devices. Their smart doorbell rings directly to their phones, and they can access their security cameras from their phones, as well as view a local monitor in a service closet or access a live view on their primary TV.

This full-scope smart home design, from consultation to completion, integrated comfort, security, and accessibility in a way that allows our clients to age in place with greater independence and ease.
